In this post, I would like to share with you some better ways to practice English speaking skill. For me, there are 2 common methods that all ESL learners can use to do the speaking practice.

1.Self-Learning and Practising:

I am sure that you will ask me how a person can practise speaking English by himself without anyone to talk to.

My answer is practise to “Think in English”.

Everybody when needed to say somthing must have an idea in his mind before he speaks out. And before this is spoken out, he has to have structures to deliver his words and make the words meaningful. Be patient. Do not try to find one best friend right away. Instead, meet many people so that you can see who you really enjoy talking to and who enjoys talking to you. That way, you can really build a friendship that will last a long time.

Do you know how much time do you spend listening? It is estimated that half of our time is spent listening. Good listening is an essential part of active communication and makes us better managers, customers, coworkers, supervisors, parents and mates. Most of us aren't good listeners; however, listening is a skill that you can always improve.

Focus on the speaker and let them know you are listening by giving verbal cues such as, 'yes', ' I see' and non-verbal cues such as, nodding, leaning forward and smiling. Give the speaker your full attention
Make eye contact, look at the person you are speaking to or who is speaking to you. Looking in another direction or distracting glances appear as though you are not listening.
Avoid interrupting. It's rude and you cannot talk and listen at the same time. If you assume what people are going to say before they say it and then interrupt to respond to your assumptions, you will annoy the person you are talking with and you will miss the real message.
Ask questions and try to see the other person's point-of-view. Don't assume that you know what the person saying if things are not making sense for you. If you are unsure of the meaning ask for clarification and then if you are still not sure repeat it back to them.
Acknowledge the other person's feelings; make them feel like you understand and that it is okay to feel the way they do.
Be patient when you don't understand; getting upset won't solve any problems but will only create more.
Express your point-of-view and make a conscious choice about your response.

Now-a-days, many dictionaries, come with a CD. These CD's contain the software version of the dictionary. This is especially convenient if you have easy access to a computer.
You don’t have to waste too much time looking for the word you want. It is quite easy to look it up using the software dictionary. Also, the software dictionary may have audio files for the words. These audio files can be played and the correct pronunciation for a word can be known. Try to look out for a dictionary that comes along with this kind of CD.
If you are unable to find this kind of dictionary that comes with a CD, do not worry.

Well, I have many friends, they really want to learn English, but they don't do it the right way so that they spend years to learn. And the final result is almost zero. Why? Last post I mentioned about people usually translate their mother tongue into English when they have conversation. This process makes English learners to have their speaking skill smooth and fluent.

So, in order to speak English naturally, learners must practice thinking in English. When we talk, you need to some ideas in mind so we can produce the words, and sentences. Thinking in English helps us to be ready for those words and sentences structures. It will be in our mind sleeping. Then when we have conversation, those words and sentences will wake up and ready for use.

How do we practice thinking in English?

Well, it is quite tricky as many people can't do this. They don't what to think in English because when an idea comes to their mind, it first is in their native language. Therefore, we have to spend a lot of time to do this exercise every day. For first days, we will need words and very simple sentence structure to apply.
